Grace Ferguson Davis
1909-2003

Grace Ferguson Davis, age 93, died Tuesday, September 16, 2003. She was born in El Paso, Texas on November 2, 1909 of an El Paso pioneer family. She received her education from the University of Texas at El Paso and the International Business College. After teaching school for a year, she was employed as secretary to Federal Judge R. E. Thomason when he was a U.S. Congressman. Then, she entered government service as a secretary at the Federal Trade Commission in Washington D.C., later transferring to the International Boundary and Water Commission at El Paso. During the WWII years, she was secretary to the Adjutant General at Biggs Air Force Base in El Paso, while her late husband, Major Paul R. Davis served in the Pacific Theater, at Okinawa Beach, and afterwards for a year in Tokyo, Japan.

Grace and Paul were married in the First Presbyterian Church of El Paso, where they met at a church social, and where Grace was a member and sang in the choir. After WWII, Paul returned to his civilian employment as a chemical engineer at C&H Sugar Co. in Crockett, CA. Their home was in the San Francisco Bay area, at El Cerrito, and later Rossmoor at Walnut Creek.

Grace was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley, CA, where Paul was an elder. She served on various committees of the church, as a discussion leader in Bible Study Fellowship and as past president of Presbyterian Women. She was past president of Carquinez Federated Women's Club, past president of Chapter EL, P.E.O. Sisterhood - Berkeley, the Rossmoor P.E.O. Group, and was a member of Chapter M, P.E.O. - El Paso.

Paul R. Davis died in 1990 and, after 56 years in California, Grace returned to El Paso three years ago where she lived in her apartment at the Royal Estates Retirement Center. She rejoined First Presbyterian Church at El Paso where she first joined as a girl in 1920.
Paul and Grace came from Christian homes for which they gave thanks. They loved the Lord and desired to serve Him and others, including their families and friends. Paul and Grace's respective families were important to them, particularly their nieces and nephews who were a loving part of their lives.
